Gavin attended Camberwell Grammar School between 1975 and 1980, and then completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne University. He joined the EY (formerly Ernst & Whinney) audit division in 1984 where he worked as a Chartered Accountant for ten years. In 1993, Gavin joined E.L. & C. Baillieu Limited, a stockbroking firm, where he was Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer from 2000 to June 2021.
Gavin joined the CGS School Council in 2014 and took over as Chair in June 2021. He has also been Chair of School Council's Finance Committee and Deputy Chair of School Council. Gavin is a director of the CGS Foundation and continues to play an active role with the OCGA Football Club.
